The Kick Inside

The Kick Inside, an analogue hand cut collage on 12x18" watercolor paper. This collage has a sister collage and can be hung as a diptych set - see also I've Been Drifting Away.

This piece is full of texture, movement, and tiny details that draw the eye inward and in all directions. The piece has incredible power. The color palette is also incredibly dynamic with the pale pink & cream advertisement torn & placed upside down, the handprinted ink drawing in the middle with frayed bristle marks, plus the bright fuchsia piece of magazine at the back & center holding everything together.

My favorite part of this collage is the textured sweeps of paper with a draped & almost scale like pattern. Those pieces in both black & white & purple & white were taken from a book page scanned, manipulated & enlarged on different times of paper & in different tones. The paper is cut to trace the movement of the fabric and worn in some areas to add depth.

This is one my favorite collage pieces I have ever made, I hope you enjoy it!
